(These are in no particular order)
📍 Hamburg Beach
Location: 4420 Lake Shore Road, Hamburg, NY 14075
The sand can be a little on the rocky side here but my favorite part is being able to see the city of Buffalo to the right and the windmills to the left.
There are a ton of logs to sit on to watch the sun go down too!
📍 Chestnut Ridge
Location: 6121 Chestnut Ridge Road, Orchard Park, NY 14127
Chestnut Ridge is a pretty big place, but my favorite spot to watch the sunset is behind the casino at the top of the sledding hill. You’ll see the sunset in the distance near the city of Buffalo.
It’s a really great view.
It’s also a great place to bring a blanket & make a picnic while watching the sunset!
📍 Outer Harbor
Location: 10 Fuhrmann Blvd, Buffalo, NY 14203
So. Many. Options. to choose from when going to the Outer Harbor to watch the sunset.
You could hang out by:
- Gallagher beach & the pier there –– sometimes this area smells like fish though lol
- Charlie’s Boat Yard — especially if you want to grab a bite to eat
- Small Boat Harbor — if you want to combine the sunset with the view of boats
- Wilkeson Point Park — go to the tip of it and the view if perfection!
📍Bird Island Pier
Location: 1170 Niagara St, Buffalo, NY 14213
This one is my personal favorite.
You can walk the pier and watch the sunset or you can sit on the big rocks, listen to the rushing water, and watch the boats travel the river under the Peace Bridge.
It’s pretty crazy how close to Canada we are, especially at this spot when it’s right across the river.
I like to bring a book or a journal, walk by the Peace Bridge, and pick a spot on one of the rocks to relax & unwind.
The address I listed is for Broderick Park, but if you go down there and make a left at the end of the road after the bridge, then park in that parking lot and walk over to the left-hand side to access the pier.
📍 Canalside
Location: 44 Prime St, Buffalo, NY 14202
This is one of the most popular places to go and watch the sunset. Something about seeing the sun go down with the big Naval ships right there takes the view from good to “wow, I like this”.
It’s great when you’re at a concert or an event at Canalside in the evening and the sunset it just a bonus part of being there!
📍 Niawanda Park
Location: 200 Niagara St, Tonawanda, NY 14150
This is the perfect spot if you want to take a walk while watching the sunset. There are paths (for walking, running, biking, roller blading, etc) all down that side of the canal.
Mississippi Mudds is a fan favorite near the park too. So if you want to go for a bike ride, watch the sunset, and grab an ice cream….this would be the prime location to nail all 3.
📍 Sunset Bay
Location: Sunset Bay, Irving, NY 14081
Watching the sunset with your butt on the sand and your feet in the water…can’t get a much better combination than this one.
Grabbing a bite to eat or a drink at Cabana Sam’s while watching the sunset here is another idea if you’re making the drive to Irving.
📍 Niagara Falls State Park
Location: 332 Prospect St, Niagara Falls, NY 14303
This option sounds a little basic to my fellow Buffalonians but to be honest it’s the one place that ALWAYS slips my mind.
Growing up & living so close to Niagara Falls, we often forget about it, but holy crow does it provide one of the most stunning sunsets to watch.
